Herbert Kopit was a barber. A barber stole from trains and boarding houses. Herbert would pose as a guest or commercial salesman to gain trust.

Newspapers described Herbert as a 'dandy'. Always well presented with nice suits and perfect hair.

Herbert's family could not fathom why he chose a life of crime. His uncle was a warder at Long Bay gaol and intervened when he could.

Hundreds of people waited on the platform of South Brisbane Station for the arrival of the hated double murderer. His arrival was a bungled mess.

There was standing room only when Kopit stepped into the dock at the Queensland Supreme Court in 1936.

It's a strange feeling to walk around my city where Kopit once did as he fled the scene of Australia's only double murder committed on a train.

I am so lucky to have generous people helping me with my research.
